Why I painted thisThe story behind the painting A hand holds a pupa, waiting to witness the butterfly. We are all born with something innate — talents given to us, waiting quietly inside. But nothing emerges on its own. Growth needs nurturing, observation, patience: the effort of learning, studying, developing — and the courage to watch ourselves change. Sometimes the hand that holds us is someone else's — a parent, a teacher, a friend who helps us grow. And sometimes the hand must be our own. We hold ourselves, we put in the effort, we support our own becoming — and we watch it through. And then it happens: the pupa opens, and the butterfly emerges. That is the transformation — the moment everything we nurtured finally shows its wings. From pupa to butterfly. From what we were given, to what we become.
This artwork symbolises the nurturing and observation of one's innate talents, drawing a parallel to the way a hand holds a pupa to witness the emergence of a butterfly. It's a beautiful metaphor for personal growth and self-discovery.
